My world came crashing down when I learnt that my favourite burger place, Burger Bench & Bar (by Wild Rocket), had ceased operation. The same goes for Kichn (not a burger joint but one of my favourite places) which closed down too. I don't understand why these good places just don't make enough money to carry on serving good food. WHY!

Back to burgers. Wild Rocket had opened Relish near my place a while ago. I finally went over to check it out, and darn, was I elated that I can sink my teeth into that piece of much missed beef patty once again.

A must-order from Burger Bench & Bar. So glad that they have it here.

The Konig Ludwig beer is recommended to pair with the 'Bacon & Cheese Burger.'

Variety was great. Aesthetics were great. Price (at $68++ for a dinner buffet) was persuasively okay considering the amount of food they serve.

I couldn't stop going gaga over all the little desserts. They are so fun-sized that it brainwashes you to think that it doesn't hurt to take one, but before you realise, you end up gobbling down everything. Oh well, that's the "beauty" of a buffet.

It was almost a perfect place to chill-out on a Saturday evening.

This was ironically far from a "nightmare", or probably it meant bringing nightmares to other pizzas due to its existence.

With a harmonic combination of squid rings, mozzarella, special black pepper sauce, red chilli and coriander seated in the most queer yet tasty squid ink dough, the 'Nightmare' pizza is a winner.

'Blinis' means 'French thick pancake' and yes it was indeed - thick flavoursome but not too heavy.

I recalled attending Domino's grand opening at the start of 2010. They had two outlets back then and by now, coming to the end of 2011, they've opened thirteen outlets islandwide.

This is their twelfth, at Tampines.

Introducing Domino's latest pizza sauce - Cheese Overload! I was excited to death because I am a hardcore cheese fan.

Domino's Pizza has one of the most efficient and user-friendly online ordering systems ever. I had plenty experiences with them and never once did they fail me.

And 30 minutes delivery time guaranteed! Else, free pizza for you!

Wow, this was double delight for me! Cheese burst crust + cheese sauce.

I like how these chicken crunchies are marinated with Tom Yum spices. YUM.

Classic flavour, loaded with aromatic cheddar cheese sauce.

My all-time favourite flavour from Domino's.

Always been wanting to try their chocolate lava cake and there it was - moist runny and all. Best part, it is half the price if you order online with a regular pizza!

Why wait! Get overloaded with cheese now. Thanks omy for having me again.

Who would have thought a simple dish like omelette could taste so good? It was the best piece I've eaten in the longest time.

With a sunny side up smacked right in the middle :)

Being in the same group as Privé, they offer the same dishes - both 'Eggs Royale' and 'Benedict', but only better. The eggs that I had at Privé the other time were not runny enough.

We chose poached eggs but this I felt was not worth the menu price of $16.

Service was topnotch. Staffs were very attentive and did constant checks, but we didn't felt the least pressurised despite being the longest staying customers on a weekend morning.

Mookata Traditional Thai BBQ

Mookata in Thai means pork and skillet.

A combination of marinated chicken breast, pork collar, pork belly, streaky bacon, prawns, squid, fishball, meatball, crab stick, otah, leafy vegetables, corn, golden mushroom, eggs, tung hoon and tofu.

I know raw meat doesn't look the most appetising so I shall only post one big ass photo of it.

I've seen this once at Tom Yum Kungfu but let me elaborate further.

The traditional skillet is a dome-shaped metal pan with a trough flanked around its circumference. Fueled by burning charcoal, a variety of meat is loaded on top of the skillet and as they get barbequed, tasty juices and seasonings will flow down the sides of the dome into the trough, adding flavour to the soup.

Spicy lovers would be most excited to hear! Mookata makes their own chilli sauces with three levels ranging from the mildest to the deadliest. I swear by it that all of them tasted darn good.

Homemade Cranberry Mallow Pie

I decided to do this purely because I bought a bag too full of cranberries. And they were so sour. Never knew fresh cranberries taste THAT sour.

Simmered these cranberries and they actually popped (like popcorns). I was kinda amazed.

Could have stopped right at the cranberry sauce since it was already in a more edible form but I wanted to take it further. Googled for cranberry recipes and I found something that is relatively simple and doesn't require much ingredients to make. I'm lazy (if it isn't obvious enough already).

Tadah! It was a success (minus the aesthetic value).

Time to eat humble pie!

Delcie's Desserts Media Opening Launch

I was invited to the launch of Delcie's first flagship store at Serangoon, and it was also the first time I learned about the existence of guilt-free sweets.

Delcie, the baker and owner, told us the story behind her "cakes that truly care." Ever since her mum passed on due to bad health, she was bent on developing her own healthy baking methods without compromising on taste and texture.

All her Halal-certified cakes are baked naturally without eggs and dairy, using organic ingredients such as unbleached wholemeal flour, raw sugar, plant-based agave sweetener, trans-fat free oil, 70% dark chocolate, sea salt, calcium-enriched rice milk, and special formulated non-dairy cream.

Delcie also gave us a live cake demonstration - from mixing to decorating. No animals were slaughtered in this process ;)

Slapping on sinless chocolate cream and banana slices.

And there we have, a cake with a conscience.

Besides being 100% egg-free and dairy-free, Delcie also created three additional categories:
1) Baby Cakes - cakes suitable for baby's diet.
2) Eldery Cakes - cakes that is suitable for sugar intolerant or diabetic folks.
3) Gluten Free Cakes - cakes for those with wheat allergy.

If there are any other specific health requests that you need (peanut allergy for example), feel free to call in a custom order.

My favourite was this! It was so good that I downed four cups!

Delcie's Desserts, is by far, the only bakery in Singapore which is awarded with the 'Healthier Choice Bakery Award' by Health Promotion Board.

69 Cold Soya Beancurd

Are you one of those whom have fallen prey to the insane queue at 'Lao Ban Soya Beancurd (老伴豆花)'? I admit I used to be one, but ever since they got REALLY famous and opened up a second stall in the same food centre at Old Airport Road, I stopped visiting them. Reason is simple: standards dropped. The last time I went I queued one and a half hours in exchange for disappointment.

Then, I became very emo when I knew my favourite tau huey is no longer as delicious and readily available... until... I discovered 69! (I'm referring to the name of the stall by the way.)

Similar fashion to that of Lao Ban's, but only, better (than post-famous standard). It is so good and smooth that it got me hooked. I kept making ~~trips~~ excuses to go back and try all their flavours.

Yes, you heard it - flavours. Not only do they have original, almond, green tea, durian, they innovate special flavours everyday. The pink one you see in the photo above is bandung, and I've also came across chocolate, blueberry, and lychee.

Special flavours are a tad more expensive because according to the boss, they are made from fresh fruits and ingredients (not syrup / powder / artificial flavourings) and I trust him for that as I could really taste the difference.

Tell me now, how can this not make my day for the green tea fanatic in me?

After having Cowboy's Tarven, you could always walk down a few shops (under the same HDB block) for a dessert treat - alcoholic and exotic cake flavours done in a traditional way.

'Lychee Martini' was the first Pine Garden cake that I've eaten and fell in love with many years back. Until now, this flavour is still one of their bestsellers. Good things never die.

Cowboy's Tavern

Hidden round the corner of some HDB flat was this "cowboy restaurant".

Interiors aren't fascinating, but decent enough for a casual meal. I forgive their unpolished flooring because they are cowboy themed.

Hahaha just for laughs!

For an additional $3.90 with every main course ordered, you get to enjoy free flow soup, garlic bread, beverages, and ice cream from the 'Cowboy's Corner.'

All their main courses are going for $9.90 only, and here I have in a plate - pork cutlet, grilled chicken, pan-fried salmon, mashed potatoes and boiled vegetables as sides. For portion and (fairly good) taste, it was worth every cent.

Other main courses even include items like ribeye steaks and seafood and they still cost $9.90.

Shin Minori

I've always enjoyed à la carte buffets, because you can simply plant your butt down comfortably and order like a king because there is no limit (except for the space in your stomach).

At Shin Minori, it costs $29++ for a lunch buffet, and $33++ for dinner, which I thought was extremely reasonable considering the kind of choices and quality you get.

If you're a sashimi lover, this platter alone already makes 70% of your buffet money worth. Tuna, salmon, yellow tail, snapper, swordfish, octopus, cuttlefish - they were all very fresh!

Because 'Shin Minori' means 'new harvest' in Japanese, every month, there'll be a Harvest Nite promotion where special items would be served on specific nights in addition to the buffet.

For the month of October, we had the 'Trio of Seafood'. I like how it tasted as good as it looks.

Not bad, but the tenderness of the beef could be improved on.

Crispy fried chicken with a dash of wasabi goodness, bold yet not overpowering.

Grilled chicken skewers and meat balls, homemade Japanese fish cakes, Shiitake, and leek. My personal favourite was the chicken meat balls.

I'm not a fan of chicken organs, or in fact, any food made from the insides of animals EXCEPT for Foie Gras. I nibbled a bit of the chicken heart and gizzard and I was done.

Cold spaghetti with cod roe, interesting!

This was too good that I just have to dedicate an entire entry for it - The famous silk pudding in Asakusa!

Aptly named 'Silk Pudding' because it was smooth as silk!

After trying their original pudding, I couldn't get enough of it. Returned to the cafe later in the night to grab two more flavours.

The cheese one was really really fragrant!

They have so many flavours and if only I had a group of people to share them with, I would have bought everything!

One of the most budget eats from a 24-hour chain rice bowl restaurant.

Their MOS Burger standard is the same as Singapore's. So it was so-so.

Snacking near the Sensoi-ji Temple. Nice!

Surprisingly good.

At on of the most crowded stalls at Ameyoko.

First time trying Sake, and it was disgusting. Barely finished a quarter of it.

There is no way we can ever have this delicious burger in Singapore's McDees.

Matcha at its very finest! Served over scenic Rikugien Gardens at one of their traditional tea houses.

Kyoto Eats

Saviour on a hot temple visiting day.

King and queen crabs served in various forms - steamboat, raw, tempura, broiled, tofu.

Crab in Japanese is known as 'Kani'; steamboat is 'Nabe'; hence crab steamboat is 'Kaninabe'. Hahaha it cracks me up every time I point to the menu and tell the server "Kaninabe!"

I like the raw one best!

Japan is a happy land of green tea :D

First take at Godiva, and upon the first sip, I immediately concluded that even Starbucks is better.

From Yoshinoya, and it's freaking nice! Why don't we have this in Singapore!

Bought at Meiji Shrine and also freaking nice. Best ice cream eaten in the entire Japan trip.

Traditional Chinese dishes with an extraordinary twist. They claimed it to be the "Ubin" twist.

Crispy, sweet, with a subtle hint of spiciness, and soon we all got unknowingly hooked to this.

I was pretty skeptical about this dish at the first look, but it proved me wrong. Love how these baby shrimps crackle in my mouth!

Nothing was overdid nor shortchanged here. It was just nice - the sauce, the grilling, the tenderness.

Despite the majority liking this, I did not fancy the "chao tar" (burnt) smell to it.

Interesting introduction of garlic to the squid!

Korean inspired beef served with fresh lettuce, raw garlic and green chilli. It was surprisingly well adapted and very delicious.

Another non-chinese dish - 'Spaghetti Carbonara' with minimal cream sauce and small pieces of pork belly in replacement of bacon.

When people talk about crabs, we usually think of chilli or black pepper, but Ubin Seafood surprised us with a 'White Pepper Crab'. It instantly became the limelight of the night! The fragrance of the white pepper complimented the fresh juicy crab meat greatly, damn, I never had anything like that before!

With over 60 outlets across Hong Kong and China, Tai Hing has now landed on sunny island Singapore.

I love the airport. Even if I'm not jetting off, I wouldn't mind being at the airport for just a meal or to have a whiff of the air there. So I was most welcomed by the idea of tasting Tai Hing behind the departure gates of Changi airport. How often can you do that? ;)

The location caters to an international but limited group of audience, so locals, if you're a fan, pray that Tai Hing would open an outlet in town or something

I like milk teas served this way - cold, minus the dilution from melted ice. The original taste is preserved and guess what, Tai Hing was the very first restaurant to introduce this concept back in 2003.

Roasted using Tai Hing's self-developed oven, the pork has indeed the crispiest skin despite being left in the air-con for some time.

Signature 'Supreme Char Siu', and it didn't disappoint. Large, juicy but not fatty.

After their fourth outlet, Xiao Bar Wang finally had their official launch. It's a great feeling to see this humble kiosk (which has been providing me affordable comfort food in town) grow to the size of a eatery today.

And if you notice, Xiao Bar Wang's logo is a Jeff Wang lookalike. Jeff talked about his dream to "introduce Taiwan culture through delectable Taiwanese snacks" together with his good friend cum co-owner Ong Wee Yeap, financial consultant and F&B veteran in Singapore.

Love this item! They should totally serve their cold noodles at all branches.

My second time tasting 'Thunder Tea Rice' and I still can't get used to the taste. It's like weirdly minty with a bit of saltiness.

I was quite surprised that the custard bun was pretty awesome for food court standard! It actually flows.....

Popiah reinvented. Other than the traditional ones, they also had like salmon, tuna, mexican, etc.

This was my favourite dish of the night. I finished most of it despite nearing explosion. 'Tofu Soup' from a Korean restaurant called Tofu Mania, and I think the name suggests it all.

$8 for these stale and bitter sea urchins. I took a bite and I was done. I know I said something previously about not comparing the local food to overseas, but ever since I've gotten a taste of urchins fresh from the seas of Tioman, I'm sorry my benchmark is there.

Don't worry Waraku, your 'Cha Soba' is still irreplaceable in Singapore. It is a must-order every time I'm here.

I've got a weakness for potato and cheese.

I've forgotten the dish name and made one up myself lol. Waraku is certainly not THE place for desserts IMO. For Japanese desserts, my favourite is still MOF.

Can I say this isn't exactly like a soup - only that it's thicker, juicier, and serves a perfect companion for the bread.

Ugly because they're hand-moulded, and hand-moulded food are often filled with love, or at least I felt it :)

This was a disappointment as it was nowhere near buttery nor garlicky and was too dry for my liking. Told one of their servers and she exchanged it for something else of my choice with no further questions asked. A big plus point for the service!

Switched from pasta to burger, and yes, this was great!

I know this photo is totally unrelated to food. But I love this decor that sits outside the doors of The Garden Slug.

If you fancy a homely hearty affair, don't give The Garden Slug a miss. Yes, the location is a tad inconvenient (also why I took me some time to pay it a visit), but that's what makes it a hidden gem!

8 Degrees Taiwanese Bistro 八度空间

The name '八度空间' instantly caught my attention, and if you are a Jay Chou fan, you'd would know what I mean. I'm one and I don't deny it ;)

And so, this 八度空间 or 8 Degrees place (direct translation) has officially become one of my favourite hangouts since the day I chanced upon it.

Comfy, humble, not too rowdy, and best of all, a five minute drive from my place.

Never liked oyster omelettes, but this was good!

I ordered their 'XL' Chicken on ALL four occasions that I was here.

I haven't came across a bad dish in here so far, and there are a lot more interesting dishes that I have yet to try - cold noodles, chicken burger, olive leaf fried rice, etc etc.

Come to think of it, this is the first Taiwanese cafe that I've been in Singapore. The rest are usually takeouts. But regarding cuisine authenticity, don't ask me to compare to Taiwan please, because:
1) I'll get very jealous as I haven't been to Taiwan yet (I KNOW RIGHT!) so I wouldn't know.
2) Get real, you are in Singapore. It's like how can you compare ramens in Japan to the ones we have here.

But as far as I am concerned, the food at 8 Degrees has kept me, my friends, my family and whoever that I've brought here happy.

I recall stepping foot into the one and only FFT branch at North Bridge two years ago - it was small, cosy, and very fragrant because of the open kitchen.

The one at Queen Street is a brand new face. Bright, clean, simple, not much food smell, and comes with a pricier and totally different menu (which means no more pizza and Red Velvet Cake).

The food was still good and I like the place, but I'd choose the North Bridge branch if I am soughting after a homelier affair.

When I pay $58++ for a buffet, I look forward to oysters, seafood, and all that expensive stuffs - sashimis, at the very least.

A pity. StraitsKitchen is all about local cuisine - Laksa, Nasi Goreng, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Roti Prata with Chicken Curry.

It was my Muslim colleague's farewell dinner and due to the scarcity of halal-certified hotel buffets, StraitsKitchen had to be the place after hearing a friend putting in a good word.

I enjoyed the buffet. But I would enjoy it even better if it was half the price.

Honestly, I am unwilling to pay $58++ for local fare, no matter how good it is. (The price was jacked up also because Ramadan.)

Checking out the breakfast menu at The Connoisseur Concerto (TCC) on a weekday morning! Love the serenity of the place. In fact, I just love dining at the Robertson Quay area.

Softest raisin pancakes I've tasted layered with glazed apples, paired with cinnamon cream and berries - perfect breakfast for sweet tooths!

You'll be surprised. One is the usual savoury cheesy chicken ham muffin topped with scrambled eggs, while the other is a raisin custard muffin sweetened with tangy mango (wow!)

For the adventurous like me. I like the kick of burning sensation on my lips and the fact that the espresso wasn't too bitter. However, I didn't really fancy the overdose (like almost a quarter!) of chocolate sauce in my espresso cup.

All in all, TCC serves awesome breakfast at a reasonable prices, like $8 - $12 kind? And it is available from 8am - 11am everyday at almost all outlets!

Pu Tien - Yi Dian Ye Bu Pu Tong. Hahahah that was just one of the cheesiest lines I ever came out with. It meant "not ordinary in any bit" in Mandarin. *Cringe.

But truth to be told, I found the dishes served in PUTIEN very different indeed. Probably the fact that it's Heng Hwa cuisine, or that the chefs are simply creative.

I like how all these lychees and chestnuts act as elements of surprises to give traditional Chinese dishes a unique spin.

Was introduced to this place by my colleague. A casual fine dining restaurant operated by (Shatec) students where you can expect 3-course set lunches and dinners for a below average price, and exceptionally good service.

I didn't take down the full name of all these dishes, but their recipes change all the time. (Pun intended.)

Rich, juicy, tomatoey. All of us shrieked "good" and slurped it dry.

There was a slight hint of fishy smell, but it was not too bad.

I just love their food presentation. I couldn't quite figure out what it was actually - pie? tart? I checked with one of their boys but he was unsure as well, so I didn't bothered, as long as it tasted good.

Didn't think much of this dish because to me:
1) Secret Recipe is a place for cheesecakes.
2) The fish is dory, and unfresh dory is usually flaky.
3) The green sauce looks unappetizing.

But boy, was I surprised! The meat was actually fresh(!!!) and it melted in my mouth; their "secret recipe" sauce (most likely pesto) was really complementing; and the grilled potatoes were just amazing. I enjoyed it so much that I couldn't bear to finish it up fast, and I was quite sad when I saw the whole fillet gone. The only drawback was the sucky service.

I saw some new "Bar Wang" dishes at ION recently and little did I know that there were even MORE new dishes at their new joint - One Raffles Place (formerly OUB Centre).

With proper seatings, a revamped menu (complete with noodles, rice sets and all), and good pricing, I can see how the weekday lunch crowd got so insane.

I'm a fan of their 'Crispy Chicken', and it's impossible not to like this as well. The fried batter was thin, yet not losing THE crunch.

A Taiwanese breakfast dish.

Another Taiwanese breakfast dish, and boy, was I impressed!

With "寿面 (Shou Mian)" as the main bulk, complemented with shredded chicken, and slices of omelette, carrot, cucumber - you can mix them all up with a secret recipe mustard, soy sauce, and chilli oil according to your preference in taste.

The result is a creamy mustardy (minus the sting) bowl of comfort food.

My favourite 'Chee Cheong Fun' stall in Singapore.

I was very depressed when I couldn't find it a while back. I thought they had closed down or moved to somewhere unknown (because it's not listed in HungryGoWhere), but I received a comment on my old food blog entry about it's new location, which is just a few shops down the road - from 75 to 89 Killiney Road. Thanks Jac, whoever you are!

A MUST in every visit.

I mentioned in that old entry years ago that I did not dare try their signature 'Durian Chee Cheong Fun'. I finally did one day, and it was the road to no regrets.

Every time I recommend this dish to my fellow peers, they will raise their eyebrows and look at me like I was insane or something. But once they've tried it, all of them would be utterly convinced.

The thick chilled Durian meat went perfectly well with the soft rice flour skin and a dash of peanuts and sugar. It's a very aberrant kind of sensation and the closest I can relate it to is cold Durian 'mochi' with very thin skin. Heavenly.

This entry came kinda late because I have been caught up with a lot of stuffs recently. But ever since I visited MEDZS for the first time two weeks ago, I've seen myself going back twice, and also successfully recommended about five groups of my friends whom went there on different occasions just by hearing me speak. Ahh, the wonders of viva voce ;)

So what is it about this place that makes me so eager to share with everyone? The food, the price, THE BEERS, the location, the ambience - almost everything was above satisfactory level on my checklist.

MEDZS provides the first widest spread of authentic Mediterranean food in a casual, cashless-card dining environment. And again, the price the price. I don't usually put food pricing in my entries (because I'm lazy) unless they are really attractive, which in this case, yes and Imma do it.

$18.

$4 for this. Add parma ham? Just top up $2.

These ringers / beepers / alarms / whatever you call that will literally ring (like a phone) when your food is ready, then you can go collect them at the respective counters.

$10, and a good one.

$18 for the REAL deal - not the shredded or minced up kind of lobster meat.

$10, and this went especially well with the following 'Couscous', which came with just an additional of $3.

$15.

$10. I'm not a fan of fatty pork meat but I just gotta like how this melts in your mouth.

Oh, and this gotta be my favourite of all. Cod, salmon, seabass and prawns with mashed potatoes with pumpkin / herbs. But do note that this is just a sampling portion. The actual stuff are sold in fresh fillets priced between $12 to $15.

Beer lovers, hear hear! The largest range of beers in Singapore is in MEDZS. Spanning over 120 of Mediterranean and international labels, you will definitely be spoilt for choices!

But be sure to grab them fast, because those nice and hard-to-find beers can be wiped out within half a day!

On both subsequent occasions that I've returned, none of these three were available anymore :( I heard that the 'Green Goblin' is damn popular too, because they were sold out on all three occasions! FYI, MEDZS bring in new bottles on a daily basis.

For those who are only keen on drinking, there's even a perfect drinking / chilling area catered for you.

You haven't heard the best part yet. MEDZS is now running an ALL DAY ONE-FOR-ONE BEER promotion (until 30th June 2011). Can it get any better?

And as if my tummy wasn't already close to explosion, they have all these sweet distractions to tempt you.

But my favourite line when it comes to dining is - "There's always room for desserts."

So, dear $1 Meringue, I'm not letting you off.

And all these tasteful presentation of desserts and food are credited to none other than Chef Mus, a young and talented Morocco-born man. Despite his long busy working hours, Mus takes pride in every dish he prepares and is always caught with a smile on his face.

Thank you Mus and Racheal once again! It's been one of the food tasting session I've attended and I'm not lying :)

Visited the The Central branch because the one at ION is always packed.

Food here was of the same great quality, with the same good prices.

I wouldn't have expected much of their sashimi but this was good!

The star of the day is this 'Special Set' that I wanna highlight. For only $55++, you get a hugeass bowl of salad, crispy fried chicken with spicy sauce, Agadeshi Tofu, one main dish, one hotpot, a bowl of udon / rice, pork katsu with scrambled egg sauce, Mentai Potato Pizza, and a drink. Basically it's everything that you see for the rest of this post!

Don't be taken in when it's stated as 'for 2'. The portions were so huge I think it could even feed up to 4!

Some say this is the best, some say it is overrated, and I'm more of a believer of the latter because so far no ramen has beaten my Ichibantei yet, well, at least to me.

Having very low expectations, I dug in, and boy, was I surprised.

I actually liked the noodles (the thin ramen kind), the Char Siu, the Ajituke Tamago (soy eggs). The broth was okay.

Marutama is now my second favourite ramen place, and it has the potential of winning my heart (and stomach) over soon. But I don't know. I was too hungry that day when I tried it, so probably I'll go back for a second visit for a better judgment!

You can find one of the best hidden gems in this humble old school looking coffee shop.

Best 'Char Kway Teow' in KL, and some say Ipoh.

AND THIS IS THE MOTHER OF ALL 'CHEE CHEONG FUN'! Definitely absolutely certainly the best in KL, Ipoh, Straits of Malaysia, and the whole muthafcuking world! LOL sorry very excited talking about the best food.

Rice flour at its thinnest, married with their homemade sauce and chilli paste; one plate and I could die on the spot with no regrets. Ok I'm exaggerating lah. I'll regret it if I can never eat this cheong fun ever again.

And so me and my friends returned again the very next morning during our KL trip. I could really have this every day man.

Apparently, the porridge here seemed quite popular too. Shall try it my next time there! Meanwhile, I can only dream of my dear cheong fun :'(

Holly holla! Cold Stone has landed in Singapore!

As mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of ice cream with mix-ins, but this one's really really good!

The queue never dies.

I ALWAYS feel like a kid when it comes to ice cream - watching with bursting exhilaration as they perform magic on my ice cream.

For the OREO monster in you. I traded the chocolate chips for the tempting brownie that I saw baking.

I don't like the white chocolate chips in here.

MY FAVOURITE! It makes me wanna cry.

The staffs in Cold Stone Creamery were very interestingly trained. They sing, toss the ice cream high up, catch them, let you catch, and they smile a lot. Very happy place to be in, and it's my first time experiencing such an atmosphere in Singapore.

As fresh as a burger can get.

Having heard a few raves about this unpretentious burger place, it's surprising that I don't see much crowd every time I walk past.

People compare the price of the burger here with err, McDonald's (like seriously?), and find it pricey. But boy, until the day you sink your teeth into their moist quality beef burgers, don't complain.

The 'Chicken Katsu' fillet seemed a tad dry. Could have been perfect if there were more curry sauce.

Go for any beef burgers. It won't go wrong. And the crowd at The Hand Burger should totally come over.

With Korean craze on the rise; the amount of meat variety; and the super reasonable pricing of $20+ per pax (even reasonable seems like an understatement), this humble little Korean BBQ restaurant sure draws tons of dinner crowd.

My two favourite meats of the lot.

Only one cooking shot because 1) the meat ain't very photogenic, and 2) me and my friends were all busy digging in.

Here comes the best part. Wrap the BBQ meat in lettuce, add the Korean chilli paste and munch on it! Oommmph..

The only thing I dislike about this restaurant is their place - greasy, sticky, and hot. However, if you are one who doesn't mind and only care about the food (like me), by all means, go ahead. Just remember to wash your hair three times to rid that smell. Ha! You are warned!

I thought that Nando's was the only player in the 'Peri Peri Chicken' market, because Barcelos always give me an impression that they sell fried chicken so I never really took notice.

This is the second most spicy level in the range, but it wasn't much of a challenge for me so I kept adding the 'Supa Peri' sauce. BUT, that is me. In my opinion, order 'Mild Peri' to play safe and top up the spiciness with the sauces. Cos', most of the guys around me couldn't take this ;p

Yet another 'Xiao Long Bao' post.

Only that this time, it's completely out of the norm.

Colourful soup dumplings that comes in eight unique flavours!

There was actually a recommended flow to which flavour you should attack first (from the mildest to strongest) so that you don't break the taste. Shall run through this with a few comments.

1. Original (white) - the skin was surprisingly soft and the soup stock was perfect!
2. Garlic (gray) - very fragrant, I like this!
3. Ginseng (green) - too overpowering for me.
4. Foie Gras (brown) - couldn't taste the Foie Gras at all.
5. Black Truffle (black) - most intimidating in terms of looks, but it turned out to be a favourite!
6. Cheesy (yellow) - just nice.
7. Crab Roe (orange) - kinda weird.
8. Szechuan (pink) - spicy and a little oily, but was rather special.

Being able to try every single flavour was a brilliant idea indeed. Now I know what I'm going to order in bulk for my next visit.

Their 'La Mian' and desserts surprised us positively too!

Apologies for the lack of updates. I have recently been actively involved in the setting up of my friend's cafe - identity, branding, look and feel, which also leads to ~~a little~~ a lot (actually) of interior design. This is something totally new to me, despite losing much brain cells in the process, I enjoyed myself and am looking very forward to its opening. The excitement of seeing your own ideas come alive, ya know!

However at the same time, being a foodie and having been to plenty places, I'm ashamed that I've never took much notice to cafe / restaurant designs in details. I have no problems identifying places with good ambience and sleek branding though, and I hope that this project would be a success in spite of the restrictions. I might blog about it when everything is done! Wish me luck!

Invested on a macro lens mainly for food photography, and this is the first food trip with my new toy!

I think I'll never order any kind of dumplings in Din Tai Fung other than their signature 'Steamed Pork Dumplings' or 'Xiao Long Bao.' ever again. Not that this sucked, but I'd rather get more 'Xiao Long Bao' for about the same price.

Each legendary dumpling contains 18 wicked folds. You can try counting them!

Stepping into Xin, one would definitely be swept off his feet by the contemporarily designed interior of this Chinese restaurant.

Even before looking at the menu, you know you're in for a good treat. A well-deserved meal one should pamper yourself with, and Chinese New Year seems to be the perfect calling for this.

There are four VIP rooms in total, two large, and two small..

..and they're all named after Chinese teas.

A tea for the ladies, and yes, I love it.

Xin has boldly revamped the 'Yusheng' into something so sophisticated, yet not taking away any of the traditional ingredients which represent good luck, fortune and prosperity.

An iceberg / ice mountain / ice coral of raw fish! This came as a total surprise.

With six different kinds of raw fish - lobster, salmon, tuna, Japanese sweet prawn, geoduck clam and Japanese cobia tastefully handcrafted into the form of rose petals alongside with the six tiers of salad, you'll understand why Xin's '六六大顺 Yusheng' is worth that hefty $388.

The raw fish were all fresh and the sauce wasn't overpowering. A sweet kick start to the CNY feast ahead!

'Pen Cai' literally means 'basin of food' in Chinese. For top-notch indulgence, Xin has created an imperial version packed with whole Australia 3-head abalone, sharks' fin, fish maw, deer tendon, sea cucumber, goose web, sea moss, dried oyster, black mushroom, wild bamboo pith and Chinese baby cabbage - each ingredient cooked separately and then stewed for hours to perfection in superior stock.

There's a Chinese proverb which says '一分钱, 一分货', meaning 'you get what you pay for.' For people who knows how to appreciate, such superiority costs a reasonable $888 for a 10-person serving. Of course, Xin also offers more mid-range choices like their 'Prosperity Seafood Pen Cai' at $388 and 'Traditional Pen Cai' at $338.

The 'Imperial Pen Cai' goes all out to impress. They even have a specially designed luxurious silk carrier just for takeaways.

Not trying to apple polish Xin, but this is the best 'Siu Yuk' I've eaten in my entire life! No wonder it is a must-order when people come here.

This was a nice twist to the tradition - crispy and refreshing.

These flavoured 'Nian Gao' were another CNY creation.

And they fit nicely into a handbag-looking carrier for takeaways! I like how almost everything in Xin looks so aesthetically pleasing.

A special dim sum prepared by the chef to welcome the Year of Rabbit. Ha!

Riding on the fact that the chef could prepare dim sum during dinner, I tried my luck and requested for the custard bun, and the chef agreed!

You don't know how elated I was when the overflowing custard exploded in my mouth.

But FYI, dim sum at Xin is served during lunch hours only. They broke the rule for us because it was a media session.

I hate this peanut-filled snack / dessert / whatever it is.

But the chef surprised us yet again. He reinvented the traditional jin dui to be filled with chocolate, red bean, and champagne instead! Amazingly delicious!

All in all, Xin left a deep impression in me and it really made me see Chinese cuisine in a different light. Every dish was above average, and I'd surely be back someday to conquer their dim sum! Once again, thanks Tracy and Fiona for the warm hospitality!

For those who loves burgers and fries and american food, this is the true blue heart attack on a plate. Not available in Singapore though.

Even by watching it on screen, I feel fat already.

Been ages since I've dined at Sakae Sushi. Despite their menu revamp, I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be quite decent actually.

Their beef hotplate was surprisingly good.

This dessert was light enough for my liking, but this is truly subjective because my parents found it kinda tasteless.

Laurent Bernard Chocolatier @The Pier II

I went to Laurent Bernard Chocolatier on several occasions and I can't believe I've never touched their 'Chocolater Soufflé' until the very fourth visit despite hearing raves about it. I was so convinced that Max Brenner's was the best at that point in time, and to pay $16 for dessert doesn't sound very friendly to my wallet (which is quite ironic cos' the soufflé at Max Brenner costs about the same).

BUT.

IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE BEST $16 SPENT. The vanilla sauce sinks into the soft warm chocolate heart inside, and everything just tasted so right. The texture, the balance of sweetness and bitterness, the fluffiness; even the raspberry sorbet was perfect for palate cleansing. I was so touched I wanted to cry.

I kept thinking about it all day and night after that and I went back a fifth time one week later to have it again, and I'm still thinking about it. This gotta be the best best, for now.

One of the rare places in town which sells delicious Japanese cuisine at too-good-to-be-true prices. That explains the long queue that forms up everyday!

And despite the crowd, their staffs handled everything pretty smoothly.

Whenever I stare through the glass at ice cream kiosks, I want to try every flavour; and the people at Tom's Palette makes you feel so comfortable in doing so. How is it that they seem even more excited than you, "Hey, you wanna try this? How about this? It's our new creation and it's really special! Come, try!" I'll pretend to look paisey, but inside I'm melting with joy. I become a kid when it comes to ice cream.

A more casual alternative to Privé Restaurant with equally great ambience. There's just something about sitting at Keppel Bay and staring at yachts that makes everything feel so chillax.

Didn't expect much of their burgers but they were surprisingly good. Comes in 'Miso Cod', 'Pork', and 'Wagyu Beef'.

Never had a wrap like this before. The warm tender chicken and fresh mango served as a perfect contrast to the crispy wrap outside.

Privé did not disappoint at all! I WANNA TRY THEIR BREAKFAST!

I'm so glad to find out about this hidden gem before the year comes to an end.

Happened to pass by this cafe someday thinking that it was new, but a friend told me that it has been around for ages just that people hardly takes notice 'cos it looks like an ornament shop. It still is, but they've also expanded their F&B part. Lovely.

Surprisingly, the food was sooooo damn good. I love every single dish they whipped up. And if you like the cosy English kind of ambience, this HAS to be the place!

Wild Honey II

This time was even better than the first! Me and my friends were so raving about everything!

The eggs and cream cheese were nice, but it'd be perfect if the bagel was softer.

Picture salmon that melts in your mouth and potato rosti so crispy it cracks with every bite. Sounds like a pretty heavy breakfast but this can't go wrong, no.
